24"x 30"x 1" Original Oil on canvas
This painting is inspired by Julio Mejia, a local abstract artist, that was in a group exhibition with me and my work at ZuCot Gallery in Atlanta, capturing the vibrant fiery colors of the Tango. I added elements of musical instruments including a bandoneón, not to be confused with the traditional accordion. The bandoneón – or button accordion – is the soul of tango. It can sound as heavenly as a church organ and as mundane as a police siren. It's often a substitute for strings, percussion and even vocals. I have also added a cultural nod to the ancestors completing this painting using my signature style of Plastic Space figurative abstraction. This painting took about three years to reach the point where I was satisfied with the composition.
