This painting was initially finished in 2006 but I found that there was an area I felt still needed attention. I completed it in January of 2011. Sometimes a painting seems finished but there can be a nagging area that just doesn't feel right. This was such a case. It may seem insignificant to the viewer, but very important to the artist. These three masks represent different areas of Africa and the initiation of the female into society, much like the cotillions in African American society initiate our females into society today. In 2014 this image was licensed to be a Jigsaw Puzzle and in 2018 it was renewed as the previous license sold out quickly. The puzzle is available on Amazon.com.
