This painting was created during one of the Black Art Festivals using figures with black which was the fad of the times. I got the suggestion that no one had painted a picturesque African village scene. This was the sketch painting for the idea. I later painted three separate paintings in a larger size depicting each group in the painting. They all sold right away in a New York exhibition.
