I experimented with a contemporary approach to the portrait of Black women in this painting. Influenced by the sporting of many colors of hair in todays young people, I juxtaposed the bright colors in the hair and background while keeping the skin tones in shades of grey. I think the result is a unique and stunning study of a Black woman's face.
