This painting was inspired by a conversation about the kings of Africa and how royal and intelligent they were. I wanted to show how royal a King really appeared to the first Europeans that saw such a person on his throne with his wealth of gold and royal cloth to receive his guest.
This painting, along with several other works, was featured in the video presentation at the APEX Museum in Atlanta, Georgia entitled "The Journey" narrated by the late Ossie Davis. The video is shown regularly in their theater and can be purchased in the gift shop.
